Canadian Fiddle Player reveals Shoreham links

In an explosion of original music this summer, we were delighted to welcome Teilhard Frost to Ropetackle on 20th July.

Taking inspiration from bygone traditional music, Teilhard shared his love of folk with fast-paced fiddle performances and pure ballads, celebrating everything his heritage and culture has to offer. But the night became a tad more personal when he revealed he had family who lived in Shoreham years ago (his grandfather ran the Duke of Wellington pub)

Teilhard Frost is a multi-instrumentalist and banjo maker heralding from Canada and specialising in traditional fiddle tunes. He has spent the last 18 years touring with critically acclaimed band Sheesham, Lotus and ‘Son – and this year, along with musician Jason Mercer, opened for Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn.

Teilhard’s inspiration draws together the haunting music found in the Appalachian highlands, the oldest mountain range on Earth, with fiddle tunes from ancient Scandinavia and northern Scotland, conjuring up a feeling of mystery and drama.

Teilhard appeared at Ropetackle to promote his solo album ‘Four and Twenty Blackbirds Dancing on a Deer Skin,’ an album full of traditional fiddle and banjo tunes, together with harmonica and ballads.

“An accomplished singer and multi-instrumentalist, Teilhard captures the spirit of the old-time music better than anyone I know.” – Rick Ceballos, Artistic Director, Champlain Valley Folk Festival
