About this event
“Easily the best British singer of her generation” ~ The Times
Multi-award winning jazz vocalist and BBC broadcaster Claire Martin OBE celebrates the music of her much missed musical partner, the late Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, with a programme made up of his original songs and favourite songwriters.
Performing material from the forthcoming album dedicated to Richard entitled ‘I Watch You Sleep’ recorded with American conductor/arranger Scott Dunn and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the evening will include songs written by Vernon Duke, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mandel and of course Richard himself.
Claire will be accompanied by three of the UK’s most in demand jazz musicians; Mark Edwards on piano, Jeremy Brown on bass, and Mark Taylor on drums. Together, they present a heartfelt musical homage to a giant of music.
“There are few, if any, finer jazz singers than Claire Martin. She’s certainly the best the UK has produced, with her cunning mix of straight-ahead purity and interpretive legerdemain.”~ Jazz Times
