John Crace: Taking the Lead – A Dog at Number 10

About this event

In conversation with Simon Fanshawe OBE.

What the hell just happenend?! The last 10 years of British politics has been one long psychodrama. The Scottish referendum. David Cameron’s surprise election win. Brexit. Theresa May. Boris Johnson. Liz Truss. Rishi Sunak. Each prime minister worse than the last. Covid. Partygate. The UK’s politicians had rarely looked so clueless. Even with the new Labour government, we are still rushing through several news cycles each day.

John Crace, the Guardian’s much-loved political sketch-writer, has had a ringside seat at all the main events. Join him for an evening of high comedy as he tries to make sense of it all. Find out what the Queen’s last words to Liz Truss really were. This might just be the best therapy session you’ve ever had…

John has written a number of books, including I, Maybot, Decline and Fail, and A Farewell to Calm. His latest book: Taking the Lead is a satirical memoir, written from the point of view of his beloved dog, Herbie. And as a Westminster veteran, boy does he have some stories to share!

“I lap up everything John Crace writes gratefully: I love his cleverness, his wit, and his heart.” Nigella Lawson

City Books, Hove will be selling copies of John’s books at the event, which John will sign in the foyer.
