A story set against a backdrop of tumultuous events in Afghanistan: from the fall of the monarchy through Soviet military intervention, the mass exodus of Afghan refugees to Pakistan and the US, and the Taliban regime. It tells a dark and touching tale about Amir, who is tormented by guilt and his return to Afghanistan from California to help his old friend Hassan.
