Ropetackle Storytellers: Sing a Song of Sussex

About this event

“Sing a song of Sussex, of dragons, giants, and ghosts, Pharisees and devils, Vikings on the coast. And if that’s not enough for you, there’s more I can re-tell, Of sunken bells and witch hares and wise men's magic spell.”

Ropetackle Storytellers hosts tale teller and local Forest School leader Heidi McNie for an evening of earthy re-imaginings of the folklore, myths and legends of Sussex. What is the story behind the Long Man of Wilmington? What did the Devil do to Devil's Dyke? And what about the Knucker Dragon, who loves to eat Sussex Pond Pudding?

With stories from Bosham Harbour on the East Sussex coast, dipping into the sandy Weald, then back up the chalky hills of the Downs, this is a celebration of Sussex's histories and mysteries. Dark, magical and funny, Heidi's stories show how connecting to our local land and landscape brings more magic into all of our lives.

Alongside Heidi, Ropetackle regulars Amelia Ace Armande, Joshua Crisp and Marina Evans will be sharing short tales inspired by local folklore.

Heidi McNie is a storyteller on a quest to re-enchant the world a tale at a time. She performs at schools, nurseries, pagan camps and is beginning to perform at festivals along with local storytelling clubs in Brighton and Shoreham.

Ropetackle Storytellers is Shoreham's spoken word storytelling club. Founded by Amelia Ace Armande and Joshua Crisp, the club celebrates folklore, mythology and legend, with tales from club regulars and outstanding guest storytellers from all across the UK and beyond.
